Maddalena Fanconi 2009

LA BATTAGLIA

by Stile MetaDesign magazine

“As the battle begins—both visual and symbolic—Maddalena Fanconi plays with contrasts: distorted shapes versus realism, vivid color against monochrome, watercolor washed across the background and graphite pencil defining the horses, who stand as the central characters of the scene.
The composition is intricate and deliberately dissonant, echoing the chaos and emotional intensity of conflict. Yet, despite its fierce, almost chaotic appearance, the piece maintains a studied, balanced structure.
The white and black horses symbolize opposing forces—good and evil, yin and yang—set in motion within a dreamlike terrain. Subtle references to Japanese culture and calligraphy appear throughout the work, reflecting Maddalena’s deep admiration for Japanese art and philosophy.”
